Though I am not a big movie buff, However I am an admirer of Aamir Khan. I try to follow him through his movies and his blog. I realized that he has been quite the odd man figure in the industry lately.
He refuses to face press, boycotts award shows, and is said to interfere on film sets. He declined to be part of the song star smorgasbord in Shahrukh’s Om Shanti Om, and refused Madame Tussaud’s request to ‘wax’ him. And finally, he dared to tell Amitabh Bachchan’s award-winning film Black for being insensitive towards the disabled two years after it came out.
So it was probably safe to assume that there were industry tycoons who were desperately awaiting his first directorial venture in order to rip it apart. Well, sadly for the naysayers, they will, for the most part, be disappointed, for Khan’s auteur effort, while no instant classic, is still a respectable debut.
Our film industry is notoriously clumsy when it comes to films about children, but TZP communicates quite exquisitely the complex world of the child, and gets the viewer’s waterworks going in the process.
It has to be commended for, much like its protagonist, daring to be different. It is a much needed reminder that more is often just too much, while less can be just right.
There is much more in the movie that is worth a look-see, if not for anything else but to remind oneself just what a complicated time in life childhood can be, when grownups, who are supposed to be oh-so clever, just don’t understand you, and teachers seem to be in a perpetually pissed-off state.
Though in show biz the life of a celebrity is highly portrayed to of shining value, knowing this still I felt good when I saw Khan being followed by a crew of a news channel who shot almost his one whole day prior to the release of TZP.
It was the day when he completed the last bit of work on his desperately awaited project. They started at 07:00AM and finished at 04:00AM on the following day. He worked for 21 Hrs of the day. Commendable energy level! He is always fit and fresh.
Aamir for me you are the best. I love you and wish you a grand success on your each one of thoughtful endeavors.
