Since 2007, I’ve travelled the digital world as a writer and seen a lot of changes in the blogosphere.
For me, writing is about more than just putting ideas on paper. It investigates the human condition. Every word invites readers to think, feel, and reflect by acting as a brushstroke on the understanding canvas.
I recently discovered my interest in Medium again at the age of 51. Here, I found a vibrant community that has enriched my journey.
However, a significant portion of the community has left me disillusioned.
The constant chatter about monetization overshadows the intrinsic value of writing. Receiving compensation for our work is acceptable, but I find it annoying when writing loses its emotional resonance and turns it into a transactional art.
Some writers use follow/unfollow equally confusing strategies. This conduct begs the question of why we interact in the first place. Do we want to be friends, or are we just in the race to get followers as much as possible? These kinds of tactics discourage me.
And lastly the bot users and content produced by AI. Although technology has its role, writing should be an artistic endeavour that speaks to the soul.
Meaningful discourse is diluted by the urge to produce content, regardless of its value. Writing’s core is its capacity to forge strong connections with readers.
Though I believe Medium is doing a good job of resolving these issues, my basic objective is still the same, I want to enjoy writing and reading and have meaningful conversations with my tribe.
In an age where instant pleasure and algorithms are pervasive, writing should be more than a means to an end. What makes writing so wonderful is its capacity to evoke emotions, spark dialogue, and create connections.
It should be more about creating an atmosphere in which ideas can flourish than it is about one’s promotion.
Let’s experience writing again and prioritize authenticity over numbers. With our words, let’s inspire, establish connections, and bring about change.
Let’s make it to connect the soul of the author and the reader. We can build a community that values authenticity, empathy, and depth.
