Adding Personality to Your Blog

this is a guest post by Melanie Slaugh, if you want to guest post on this blog, check out the guidelines here.

You’ve been tweeting out links to your latest blog posts, attaching all of the appropriate keywords, and utilizing all of the most current SEO tactics, however you still seem to have hit a wall when it comes to increasing your blog’s traffic. On paper it looks like you’re doing everything right… so what’s going wrong? The problem could lie in the fact that you’re approaching blogging with too much of a link-driven, SEO-based mindset and not enough of a personal touch. Add a much-needed dose of personality to your blog through these tactics to help drive more traffic to your blog:

Respond to reader’s comments

Write back to your readers instead of just letting their comments stack up on each post. This helps your readers know that you care about what they have to say, which will in turn make them become more avid readers and more likely to pass your blog on to others.

Don’t just tweet links

A lot of bloggers make the mistake of only tweeting out or posting new blog post links, however people are going to start looking over your tweets if that’s all you’re doing. Using social media to promote your blog is a great tactic as long as you don’t only use it for that. You have to add some life to your Twitter or Facebook accounts to get the most out of them, otherwise you’ll start to look more like a spam account and less like a real person.

Write with opinion

Instead of just writing bland, emotionless blog posts write so that your personality shines through also. Reading posts that only cover topics without giving any personal insight gets boring after a while; it won’t matter how many keywords you’ve attached to the post if it isn’t engaging and doesn’t compel people to share it or read more on your site.

Post Vlogs

Vlogs (or video blogs) are an excellent way to switch things up a bit and give readers a taste of who you are outside of your writing, making them feel like they have a more personal relationship with you. Plus videos do really well online in terms of searchability, and because you can also post them to sites like YouTube you can reach a broader audience.

Make your ‘About’ page count

Don’t skip having an ‘about’ page on your blog – that’s the fastest way for new readers to get to know you in a short amount of time and the perfect time for you to pitch why they need to continue reading your blog. Include a picture of yourself and write it in a way that highlights the pros to reading your blog.

Despite the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of blogs on the internet that are vying for new readers, not all of them will succeed. If you want to be in the group of those that do then you have to add in a touch of individualized personality to your blog so that you can form a relationship with your readers which makes them want to keep coming back.
