Glove Mouse is the brainchild of Tony & Nevada, they upgraded it with wireless capability so that user won’t need to remain intact to your machine any more. Each of these gloves come with an LED located on the back of the index finger, where it can be picked up by a low-res webcam in order for it to function as a cursor, while buttons located under the index and middle fingers can be activated by the thumb.
In the movie Minority Report, Tom Cruise utilizes amazing technologies including reality gloves that allow him to interact with a computer interface without ever touching it. Watch Video Needless to say, this highly popular movie has inspired the technological innovations of Tony Hyun Kim and Nevada Sanchez at MIT.Both of them developed mouse gloves for a class project last year. Using equipment that costs less than $100, they were able to create an interface where they could navigate, zoom and manipulate a map, all by simply waving their hands through the air.
This isn’t the very first glove mouse they have dealt with. Rather it isn’t the prettiest of them all, this unlike the other, uses the users arm gestures to move the cursor on screen in 3D – all wirelessly. The system would respond to the gloves more like the multi-touch displays, with this difference that the user can use a wide space as the interface.
Not sure when this is going to hit the mainstream market though, but it does make us believe that the technology of Minority Report is not that far away. Here’s a video of the glove mouse in action, along with the famous scene from Minority Report that inspired it:
