We often hear the phrase – a stitch in time saves nine. It’s a reminder that addressing small issues promptly can prevent larger problems. However, even with the best of intentions, sometimes minor injuries can escalate into more serious complications.

Recently, I learned a hard lesson about the importance of taking care of even the smallest wounds. It all started with a seemingly insignificant scratch on my finger.

A Cautionary Tale of a Simple Scratch

A few months ago, I noticed that my vitamin D levels were low. After receiving vitamin D injections and supplements, I began to experience some unusual skin changes. The skin on my fingertips became rough, and my nails grew unevenly.

Concerned, I consulted a doctor who prescribed vitamin E. During this time, I also noticed a small area of skin peeling off on my index finger. Thinking it was nothing serious, I gently removed the peeling skin, leaving a small, red patch.

The Escalation

Unfortunately, this seemingly harmless act would lead to a series of complications. The area began to worsen, and I decided to apply an adhesive bandage. When I removed it the next day, I noticed some bleeding and slight swelling.

Despite dressing the wound, the problem continued to escalate. While visiting my farm at one point, a piece of cotton stuck to the wound and caused significant bleeding. I rushed to a nearby dispensary, but the medical professional there was unable to control the bleeding.

Realizing the severity of the situation, I sought help from a hospital in a nearby township. There, they were able to stop the bleeding and provide proper treatment.

A Long Road to Recovery

The recovery process has been long and arduous. I’ve undergone several procedures, including cauterization, to address the wound. Despite my efforts, the healing process has been slow, and there have been setbacks along the way.
