Back in the early 20th century Samuel Pierpont Langley was trying powered man flight with many other such ventures. He was funded with $50,000 by War Department & $20,000 from the Smithsonian for this project.
He held a seat at Harvard and worked at the Smithsonian and was extremely well-connected; he knew all the big minds of the day.
He hired the best minds money could find and the market conditions were fantastic. The New York Times followed him around everywhere, and everyone was rooting for Langley.
Then how come we’ve never heard of Samuel Pierpont Langley?
Langley gave up his project after two crashes on take-off on October 7 and December 8, 1903. All starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?”, Simon Sinek of Columbia University explains this with the help of very simple but effective model for inspirational leadership. He throws a question.
Well its surprising to see that there are no reactions/views to this post. Truly a thought provoking speech and one of the ground realities not only for the corporates but also for any individual. Some key takeaways points for me would be:
1. The alignment of – think, act & communicate, which is hampered by lot of internal & external factors in our day to day life.
2. “The” concept of golden circle. (What, how & why)
3. The power of WHAT we Believe in- I think that completes the circle fully- What – How -Why -What(we believe in)
4.The ‘Law of diffusion’ applied for ideas was something new 🙂
5. Simon Sinek- Now I know this guy and also RAnD 🙂
But a lingering thought that this speech leaves it “What is it that we believe in?” Well there are lot of conditional and unconditional factors attached to it, and answer lies within. We need to be in peace with ourselves to hear those thoughts and believes!!
Thanks a lot for sharing this truly wonderful video & your thoughts:) and in the end as Simon tells Lets have a Dream, not lets have a plan!!
I am glad that you could relate and grasped Simon’s wonderful speech thoroughly.
As he points out – You’ll attract those who believe what you believe.
And thanks for posting your detailed understanding.
