Being in this world…

Passion for Radio

by | Jan 24, 2008 | Idiosyncrasies

I am a radio junkie, I listen to a lot of radio while in travel or in my study. Though I also listen some online radio also but it consumes part of bandwidth of your limited slow speed internet so I prefer listening it on my FM player. I have a great affection to old hindi film music, ghazals and quite few new bollywood numbers. Radio is one innovative and informative source of entertainment and knowledge. Radio has grabbed my schedule because it adds some lively element to the environment. The best part is you can still keep on doing some good work :).

After quite long period. I cleaned my little old rechargeable FM player and just tuned in some FM channel. Though it was a cold night I got some heat from the kind of entertainment I received from it, moreover I was able to study a book lying near to my pillow. A voice came from radio in late actor Sanjeev Kumar’s tone:

“Radio sunne ke liye… haathon ki nahin, kaanon ki zaroorat hai, Gabbar”

Mean while I was to pull out an old dairy (1992) of mine in which I have noted down some radio programs which I use to listen in winter vacation. It was quite nostalgic for me.

In morning at 07:00 AM from Times FM it was Paravati Rathod who use to give “7 O’ClockSargam”. “Hello FM Hotline” was presented by Rajeev Saxena on Monday 10:00AM and on same time on Saturday Hello FM was an interactive feast by Vimlender. On Tuesday and Thursday three gorgeous voices of Kulbhushan, Loveena and Sangeeta use to appear on Geet Aap Kay Naam Se . At 01:30 PM Manchahe Geet and Jaimala at 07:00PM from Vividh Bharati Sewa” was awesome. At 12:00AM The Noon Show and Zero Hour Show at 12:00PM were also followed regularly.

Recently I was curious enough to check whether the show is still on, and glad to hear new voice of Mr. Nitin who was quite passionate about his show. Other than all this music stuff Kaam Ki Baatein at 01:30PM was a good source of knowledge.Other than this prior to these times Binaca/Cibaca Geetmala presented by Mr. Ameen Sayani at 08:00PM (Ameen Sayani’s Website) on some weeday was my biggest craze. At that time we don’t had transistor but a big radio with tube. Along with my father I had hanged a long wire to it which served as its antenna. My tenure in teaching proffesion brought a lot of good words to me due to clear pronunuciation which I can easily attribute to my radio listening mania. Especially All India Radio Urdu Service from 03:30PM to 05:00PM has a very big contribution to my urdu pronunciation.
