Ever wondered where your life’s major chunk of time is going? One of the biggest frustrations many of you feel is having more work to do as compared to amount of time you have.
Most of you don’t have enough time to do what all you want to do, and surprisingly year after year the issue remains pretty consistent.
Of course, having “not enough time” is just a feeling, you all have the same amount of time, but you often fill up your container with too much stuff. Since you can’t get a bigger container, you need to adjust your ideals. The ideal you choose to have can be this: that this moment be exactly as it is. The old ideal is one that you can toss into the ocean, as it is causing frustration. Let it go with joy and relief.
Given all the contemporary pressures we feel, this might feel like a modern problem. But it’s not. Seneca, a Roman philosopher who lived around the time of Jesus, wrote a book about it called On the Shortness of Life. Everyone complains about not having enough time, he said. “It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it, Life is long if you know how to use it.
This can and does happen to us every day—unless we take proactive measures. People are careful while guarding their personal property; but as soon as it comes to squandering time they are most wasteful.
Have you ever wondered, life is like a soccer game. You are trying to score think about meeting a deadline. Meanwhile, there’s a steady drive to score against you think about getting roped into a conversation, being surprised by an important assignment you forgot, watching your favourite TV show—whatever it is, you know what you’re up against.
If you think of every goal in your net as a demand on your time, you can see the danger. you may be running down field to score a goal of your own, but if you lose control of the ball, the other team will take it and potentially score against you. What stops them? The goalkeeper.
If you could relate your life to the soccer game, you will need to be the goalkeeper for our time. Trying to score is only half the game. We need to guard our goal. This is all about protecting and making the best use of our time, especially when it comes to work. This is simply a refusal to cling to the status quo.
If you feel that visceral desire to become a light to many, guard your goals and this habit can turn you great and original.
