One Step at a Time: A Story of Faith, Fitness, Friendship & Finding Renewal

For the past few years, the Kamrunag trek has become more than just a scenic hike; it’s my annual fitness litmus test. Yesterday, I conquered the familiar 8kms hike, and the feeling of accomplishment was just as sweet as ever.

This trek isn’t just about the destination – the revered temple, a local deity and reservoir of faith. It’s about the journey. The path winds through breathtaking scenery, the kind that makes you stop and simply be present. Lush greenery, the whisper of unseen creatures, and the fresh mountain air – it’s a sensory feast that washes away the everyday hustle.

This year, something new struck me. I realized I’d become familiar with the trees lining the route. Each bend revealed a towering companion I’d greeted on previous journeys. The enduring beauty of this place makes it worth revisiting year after year.

Reaching the temple is always a moment of peace. The serenity of the surroundings complements the spiritual significance of the site. It’s a chance to reconnect with nature, myself, and perhaps even a touch of the divine.

While it’s great to witness that lot of people managed to reach here on their vehicles from another route, a part of me worries that the essence of the trek – the challenge, the connection with nature – might be fading.

Maybe that’s why this annual trek is so important. It’s not just about the destination; it’s about the journey, the test of endurance, and the deep appreciation for the untouched wilderness. It’s a reminder that some experiences are best savored by those willing to put in the effort.

If I’m looking for a trek that’s equal parts physical and spiritual challenge, I look no further than this place. For me it’s a test of endurance, a celebration of nature’s beauty, and a pilgrimage to a place of deep faith.
