Being in this world…

Warm Water & Thirst

by | Aug 29, 2010 | Idiosyncrasies

Planning for an outing or while sitting in office it is very tempting to plan for some junk food with chilled beer or any other carbonated drink. It has become a well known fact that consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks is associated with obesity, diabetes, dental cavities, and low nutrient levels. Experimental studies tend to support a causal role for sugar-sweetened soft drinks in these ailments, though this is challenged by other researchers. This write up has been formulated to bring your attention to one more fact of having cold drink (or cold water) while having oily meals.

Being an inhabitant of a cold region I seldom feel the need to consume warm water. The urge is most when I get up in the morning and particularly while having my meals. I meet many people who don’t do this and even raise a question mark on this habit. Even in my family my brother who always avoid the use of warm or even lukewarm water for the purpose of drinking. The logic given is that consumption of warm water does not quench the thirst, somehow my psychosomatics have finely tuned for it.

Recently I encountered an article which throws some light on the relation of heart with warm water. Not only about the warm water after your meal, but about Heart Attacks. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating.

If you like to drink cold water only, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks – You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive. Now think twice while having chilled cold drinks with oily food, it can be lethal.
