Being in this world…

Why should you bring TEDx event to your town

by | Aug 27, 2013 | Amusing

Some six years back I started watching TED talks and fell in love with idea of ‘spreading ideas’. Didn’t realized when it became my favourite pass time. However this sweet relation of ours confined to my study room.

This season we went out on a date – Being  part of a recent local TEDx event was a genuine privilege, it left me exhilarated. While sitting amongst the esteemed and very selective audience of TEDxCartRoad, almost everything moved in front of my eyes like any other movie flash-back – How it happened?.

Cheering the Speakers

Reader may easily skip the following para as it does not gels with the Title – rather these are heartfelt nostalgic emotions of the author.

Last year (Apr, 2012) I noticed the logo of TEDx Dharamsala on the web. I was keen to learn more about it and called immediately a friend of mine at Dharamsala to know about the event but unfortunately my friend was clueless about the whole scenario. He assured me to get back with some details on this but got again busy in his life like never before. I thought to contact the organizer of the event but soon controlled my emotions after realizing that my work won’t allow me to attend it. After six months (Nov, 2012) or soon my eyeballs noticed some activity on social media regarding TEDxYouth@CartRoad. I immediately called the organizer and fixed up a meet with him. I went to attend the event but unfortunately due to shortage of time couldn’t meet him. After a while I discussed things with the organizer Mr.Panwar, after filling the volunteer form I learned – what all is required to have TEDxCartRoad. After which I streched myself to do almost everything I could do to bring this event to my place. And here I am with five surprising reasons – why you should organize a local TEDx Event at your place.

5 Surprising Reasons to organize TEDx Event

Showcasing the awesomeness

State-of-the-art Staging

TEDx events are all about showcasing the awesomeness. Whole program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue at the local level. The focus of event was not only simply on the stage, speakers and camera work. We were there to showcase the noteworthy local Himachli Ideas, with pure Himachli Cuisine – It included Ghee-Sidu (wheat flour bread with clarified butter), Kuttu Ke Atte Kay Pakore (Fried snack of Buckwheat), Apple Chutney with Kangra Tea & Gunne (sweet wheat cookies).

Interaction with Live Wires

It gives you an opportunity to connect you to the real action people. A single idea of these live wires may act as a life changer for the one who are really waiting for it. The only major credential you possess to interact with these guys is that you are a TED fan and have accessed to the database of talks so that you understand the ambience which this event brings.

Practical Learnings

Benjamin Franklin had a true realization on the concept of learning, he stated – “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”. When you are part of a dynamic team which cares about this idea you can well imagine the energy level gathered together in a place to boost your learning.

Moreover in volunteer driven tasks there is no MoU which binds you to the work. To coordinate as a team is the biggest key for successful project management. You can’t take anybody for granted and on the same time you need to push – this requires a skill and is one of the primary learnings.

Everything seems smooth on the surface but there is lot of turbulence inside. The another significant learning which I’d like to mention here is the attitude to remain hopeful – Expect the miracles to happen and also see them happening.

Lots and lots of Preparation

Smart Networking

Networking is simply marketing your uniqueness, marketing what you stand for. I realized if you are doing something that’s meaningful and on the same time have some noble purpose – both offline & online social netwoking can do wonders. At TEDx events you get an ample room to network with best lot as you can expect most of the attendees with incredible IQ.

Elegant Audience

Self-Motivated Community

TEDx has given me a lot of passionate friends as well… The joy of implementing a successful event washes away the bitter memories and you end up having so many really cool friends from the small gang. Look at the power of crowdsourcing – it plays a vital role in the whole event, such a great first class support for free.

Loads of Friends

Wrapping Up

We come, participate, learn, we apply and we improve. The community we build is innovative and passionate and the main idea on which it works is to leverage the power of brilliant ideas and let them spread as widely as possible because Ideas reshape minds and change the way we act. All who participated in the event were entertained, educated and inspired!
