You might have read the story of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and his crew when their plane fell into the Pacific. 7 men in life rafts for 21 days with nothing but water and sun for as far as the eye could see.
What is hope anyway?
It is that magical emotion which is unseen but, causes us to see the evidence of what we desire before we get it. It’s not really faith. Faith is like the heater in your house. Hope is like the thermostat on the wall which can be regulated up and down. The more you turn it up, the more fire it creates in your belly. The more fire you create in you, the more fear you expel.
According to some documented text the Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to expect for. It is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one’s life. It implies a certain amount of despair, wanting, wishing, suffering or perseverance — i.e., believing that a better or positive outcome is possible even when there is some evidence to the contrary.
Hopefulness is somewhat different from optimism because it is an emotional state, whereas optimism is a conclusion reached through a deliberate thought pattern that leads to a positive attitude. though both can be based in unrealistic belief or fantasy. In religion, it is one of the three theological virtues with faith and charity, which are spiritual gifts of God. In contrast to the above, it is not a physical emotion but a spiritual grace. In fact it is distinct from positive thinking, which refers to a healing or systematic process used in psychology for reversing pessimism. The term false-hope refers to a expectation based entirely around a fantasy or an extremely unlikely outcome. Anticipation for Happy Endings. The idea that things can change or it can get better, that the day will be brighter tomorrow that people will smile again. When life seems empty, hollow, lacking direction and just plain pointless – it’s the one thing that pulls us through.
And the great thing about you and me – is that we have it. Miles and miles of unlimited hope all stored neatly inside us. Think about it. Are there things in your life you’ve resigned yourself to having lost or having second best? Is there something you know you should change? We always have a belief – an intention – of change for the better. We can always look forward for a brighter today – and accept those things we simply can’t change (and maybe even become stupidly obsessed about). In the areas of your life that are hollow right now. How you are wishing things to happen? Why not pump up yourself? Make it big and bright and beautiful. Keep it high. Stop feeling sorry for yourself – and get out and change the world.
Remember, you are shadow of your intentions as they set your direction. So, hope for better things – and then make them happen. Then get ready for Happy Endings!
You are, as always, so wise. I think one of the reasons we are able to hope is that we are blessed to observe the cycles of life. The sun sets, it gets dark; winter comes, it gets dark (and cold, and windy, etc.)… but we know the sun will rise in the morning. We know that the frozen ground will thaw and be pierced by irrepressible life. … I think of those wretched children you read about once in a while who are locked in basements or closets for years, and I think, “They don’t know about those cycles. But what a glorious rebirth when they discover them.”
Hopelessness is for those benighted people who believe that the five physical senses can perceive and know everything there is to know; whereas, of all there is to know in the universe, we understand, maybe, a fingernail. Maybe a bacterium on a fingernail. But scientists are already studying the “sixth sense” — intuition — as a real, scientifically observable phenomenon. And who knows how many other senses we possess that we just can’t identify the receptors for.
Knowing that we, and science, don’t know everything — and surrendering to the great Knowing who does — is the basis for hope. So much is possible… we have no clue!
